Common Causes of Neck Pain
Neck pain may result from abnormalities in the soft tissues - the
muscles, ligaments, and nerves - as well as in bones and joints of
the spine. In some people, neck problems may be the source of pain
in the upper back, shoulders or arms.
Degenerative and inflammatory diseases are causes of neck pain
that includes osteoarthritis and rhematoid arthritis. Both of these
major types of arthritis can cause related stiffness and pain.
Cervical disc degeneration can also cause neck pain. The disc
acts as a shock absorber between the bones in the neck. As the disc
space narrows, added stress is applied to the joints of the spine
causing further wear and degenerative disease. The cervical disc may
also protrude and cause pressure on the spinal cord or nerve roots
when the rim of the disc weakens. This is known as herniated
cervical disc.
About the DRX9500™
The DRX9500™ uses state-of-the-art technology to
gradually relieve neurocompression often associated with neck pain.
The process has been proven to relieve pain by enlarging disc space,
reducing herniation, strengthening outer ligaments to help move
herniated areas back into place, and reversing high intradiscal
pressures through application of negative pressure.
The DRX9500™ treatment begins with a series of 3 weekly sessions
for four to six weeks. Each session consists of 30-45 minutes on the
DRX9500™. Following each therapy session a cold pack and/or
electrical muscle stimulation pad is applied to help the
paravertebral muscles consolidate and strengthen after treatment.
This also prevents muscles from swelling and going into spasm.
Should You Seek Medical
Treatment?
Immediate medical care should be sought when an injury
causes pain in the neck that radiates down the arms. Radiating pain
or numbness in your arms causing weakness in the arms or legs
without significant neck pain should be evaluated.
You should contact your
physician to seek medical care when the neck pain is:
- Continuous, persistent, and severe;
- Accompanied by the pain that radiates down the arms;
- Accompanied by headaches, numbness, tingling, or weakness.
